There's usually a reason why something is a cult favourite, and one can only take so many posts raving about the wonders of X, Y, and Z, before one begins to think: Hmm, maybe I need to try that.
But buying something for the sake of buying is never a good idea. For example, I'm keen on Origins, but I don't even know if Drink Up Intensive is suitable for my skin type.
I've swatched on Urban Decay and it looks amazing, but I'm not an eyeshadow person, and also nude colours don't always look good on me. On some occasions, they have been downright boring.
My foray into Bioderma was ranged from meh to disappointing, and while I did not try their Miscellar water, I'm not feeling really compelled to when I can get the Garnier version for a fraction of the price.
BUT... I am determined to buy myself a MAC lipstick. (It's going to be the carrot to my "you-must-get-good-results-in-your-assessments" stick this semester.) So I went on the House of Fraser website to get a feel of things and HOLY MOLLY, that's a lot of shades!
Overwhelming doesn't even begin to describe it. Honestly, it was mostly morbid curiosity that kept me there, staring at the baffling array of hues and names, before I went on a clicking spree around my favourite blogs to see if anyone's got clear pictures of swatches and recs.
Oi vey! This carrot's gonna take some time to entice me.
On the other hand, everyone raves about these lipsticks, and I would like to have a kind of "grown-up" blogger lipstick in my collection.
This leads me to my next dilemma: Do I pick a shade which is totally unexpected and like nothing I own, or should I go for a colour I can wear every day? Would you rather have something in your collection for the sake of it, or do you want something you can wear every day and rake in the compliments?
Tell me what your favourite shades are! I'm dying to narrow things down a bit!
